I admit I've heard that the Human Rights Campaign has misrepresented the community - and I did believe that for a while as well, but I have found this channel on YouTube
click here for that. But Jennifer (who is a MtF) she is so great and very uplifting person who has brightened up everyday of my life.
She is an advocate with the HRC and I never knew anything about the HRC until I started watching Jenny's channel.
I would firmly suggest if you guys can volunteer for your local HRC (this isn't sponsored), and I really think this would be a great way to get involved.
